Pariyar National park and Wild Life Sanctuary
Periyar National park is a protected area Situated in the bank of the pariyar lake. It spread in the District of Idukki and Pathanamthitta in Kerala,South India.This National Park is highly notable as a tiger reserve and as an elephant reserve.The history of this national park begin with the building of a dam in 1895,which give the attractive sites that we see tuday. The reservoir and the Periyar river meander around the contours of the wooded hills,providing a permanent source of water for the wildlife.Pariyar water reservoir is the most famous place for boating in kerala.The park is often called the Pariyar Wildlife Sanctuary.It is also referred to by the name of  "Thekkady".Thekkady is the central-point of turisam zone of the periyar National Park. The protected area  covers an area of  925 km2, 350 Km2 of the core zone was declared as  the periyar national park in 1982.This park is located 4 km from Kumali, approximately 100 km east of Kottayam,110 km west of Madurai and 120 km south east of kochi

Wildlife
It is the rare national parks were one can watch animals so close from the boats with full safety.Huge collection of elephants,tigers,bison, sambar deer,wild boar, variety of birds,and caller full butterflies are common sites for the travellers .If  you are so lucky  you can see leopard,bear,wild dog etc.
Kumaly
Kummaly was situated just 4 km away from the Periyar.This town is famous for spice trade .Today  tourism is fastly catching up here.The famous pilgrim centre Sabarimala is 150 km from Kumily.
Boat Cruises
Boat Cruises is the best way to  find the wild life verity of Pariyar. Upper deck is best for getting a better view during a boat cruise.It is only place in Kerala were the boat cruises possible at a low coast.
Chellar Kovil
A place located 15 km from Kumily and leads to the Theni district of Tamil Nadu.This place is famous for small waterfalls and cascades.
